The story, the workshop and the quality standards behind M Du Plessis Vervaardigers in Pretoria.
M Du Plessis Vervaardigers, owned and run by Marcel Du Plessis, started in Pretoria's industrial heartland to fix a frustration every fabricator, engineer and restorer knows: inconsistent coating quality and too many hand-offs.
Raw metal went to one shop for stripping, across town to another for blasting, then on to a powder coater, with everyone hoping no rust formed in transit and no one cut corners.
We removed that friction by putting stripping, blasting and electrostatic powder coating under one roof. Our principle is simple: do the preparation right the first time and the finish lasts for decades.
Based in the Silverton / Waltloo industrial hub with quick access to Pretoria East, Centurion and Gauteng's main routes, we take single-source responsibility for every job.
Before any powder touches metal, parts are chemically degreased and blasted to SA 2.5. We check for hidden oils, weld spatter, laser oxide and flash rust.
Blasted surfaces must carry a 25–50 micron anchor profile, so the molten powder can grip deep and resist edge chipping and under-film rust.
Under-cured powder chips; over-cured powder turns brittle and discolours. Calibrated pyrometers track true metal temperature through the 180–200 °C bake.
Electronic gauges check the coat on flats, edges and recesses for 60–90 microns, with no runs, sags or orange peel.
